BOGEN's story - from the 70s to today

The Foundation of Innovation

The story of BOGEN Magnetics is one of continuous innovation and strategic development.

Founded in 1951 with the development of magnetic heads for tape recorders, BOGEN quickly established itself as a pioneer in magnetic technology.

This early success laid the foundation for groundbreaking achievements in the decades to come.

As cassette recorders became increasingly popular in the 1970s, BOGEN recognized the potential of this new technology and expanded its product range to include magnetic heads specifically designed for these devices.

This move not only opened new markets but also solidified the company’s reputation as a leading manufacturer of magnetic heads.

Expanding into New Markets and Breakthroughs of the 1990s

As demand for magnetic applications grew, BOGEN continued its innovation, developing magnetic heads for parking ticket machines and credit card readers by 1975.

These developments showcased BOGEN’s ability to adapt its technology to emerging industries and broaden its influence.

The 1990s marked a period of significant technological breakthroughs for BOGEN.

In 1995, the company secured a patent for a novel magnetic encoding method, a critical innovation that would shape future developments.

Entering the New Millennium

During this time, BOGEN also diversified its offerings, introducing control magnets for textile machinery and magnetic rotary encoders for precise angle measurement using pole rings.

These advancements highlighted BOGEN's commitment to providing tailored solutions to meet complex industrial needs.

As the new millennium dawned, BOGEN continued to push the boundaries of magnetic technology.

In 2000, the company developed complex geometries for magnetic scales, enhancing its measurement capabilities.

BOGEN also introduced magnetic heads for the Advanced Photo System, further demonstrating its versatility in applying magnetic technology across a wide range of applications.

Leading in Accuracy and Security

In 2003, BOGEN introduced a correction method that significantly improved the accuracy of its magnetic measurement systems.

This innovation was followed in 2005 by the development of multiple correction methods, enabling the company to produce high-precision scales that set new industry standards. That same year, BOGEN entered the financial sector with magnetic heads designed for banknote validation, reinforcing its expertise in secure and reliable magnetic solutions.

The 2010s were marked by further advancements in measurement accuracy. In 2010, BOGEN launched incremental and absolute magnetic measurement systems with an impressive accuracy of ±10µm/m

Continued Innovation

The company also patented a magnetic head with a wear indicator, providing users with a reliable means of monitoring the condition of their equipment. This focus on precision and durability made BOGEN a preferred partner for industries with exacting standards.

In 2012, BOGEN made another significant leap forward by patenting a method to ensure the accuracy of magnetic scales using intermediate layers, a technique known as magnetic decoupling for roll goods.

This innovation was followed in 2013 by the patenting of an absolute measurement system, offering the best precision in measurement tasks.

The introduction of a highly accurate sensing head in 2014 further cemented BOGEN’s position as a leader in magnetic measurement technology.

Global Expansion and European Recognition

The company’s global expansion accelerated in 2015 by establishing a subsidiary in the USA, followed by another in China in 2017.

These strategic moves enabled BOGEN to serve its growing international customer base better and strengthen its global presence.

In 2019, BOGEN received recognition from the EuropeanXthrough the MASMA funding program, which supported the development of a high-precision absolute magnetic measurement system.

This project underscored BOGEN’s ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in magnetic measurement technology.

BOGEN's new identity

In 2020, BOGEN entered a new chapter with its acquisition by Lika Electronic Srl, Italy.

This acquisition marked the beginning of a new era, as BOGEN joined forces with another industry leader to continue its legacy of innovation and excellence in magnetic measurement solutions.

Today, BOGEN Magnetics is recognized globally as a specialist in high-performance magnetic measurement systems, with a rich history of pioneering developments and a strong foundation for future growth.
